Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks! WooHoo!
Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Vol. 4 hits the stands soon (November 15)- Woo Hoo! This is a fun issue- I got a sneak peek and there are some really great designs.
Last week I showed you a teeny tiny photo of the cover with my block on it. Here is a better photo of my block:
It's called Neapolitan because of the palette- pink, brown, and cream, representing, of course, the classic Neapolitan ice cream flavors of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. Here are some examples of quilts you might make with this block:
Soooooo...... I was wondering what would happen if we added another color to the palette, like, say, green. Pink, green and brown: sounds like Spumoni to me. So here is what the Spumoni blocks would look like:
There is now a digital version for Volumes 1 and 2- isn't that cool?
And guess what? I have a 3 copies of Volume 4 to give away. To enter, leave a comment here and tell me what is your favorite color palette-pastels, brights, primitive, or something else?? Comment by midnight Eastern time on Friday night (November 11). Make sure I can contact you through your Blogger or Google account or email. Winner will be drawn randomly.
Good Luck!!
Also, don't forget to visit all of the other designers on the hop, who will be giving away copies too. Quiltmaker Magazine is also giving away a-whole-lotta goodies, so make sure you stop by there as well!!
P.S. I just found out that today's sponsor is Kansas City Star- and they are giving away a copy of the books by their authors who are included in this issue of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks- so that means you have a chance to win a copy of my book Fruitful Hands- stop by the Kansas City Star site to enter.....
P.P.S. The Henry Glass Jolly Holiday Blog Hop is coming next week- so many prizes and free projects- I can't even count! Make sure you stop by....

Another great quiltmakers 100 blocks :) My favorite palette right now is light green, pink and cream/white backgrounds. Working on a new tablerunner for myself and I love the colours I have chosen.

ReplyDeleteLove your block Jacquelynne....and I really love it with the green in it. Awesome and I would love to win one of the books as it would be so very useful. I am enjoying florals and lots of dots at the moment but really love all kinds.Actually so long as it has green somewhere I will love it! Hugs Vicki x

ReplyDeleteI tend to lean towards country or florals but at the moment I'm working with bright hand dyeds and it's different!
My favourite colours at the moment are peach and green or pink and green, or anything Fig Tree!
ReplyDeleteI guess my favourite palette would be brights and fresh fabrics, my fav colour is purple!
ReplyDeleteAt the moment I'm into brights, really saturated colours. I'm especially hooked on orange.

ReplyDeleteLove that block! You're color choices are great and really pop against the white. Can't wait till that issue comes out. I've worn last years out!
ReplyDeleteMy color choices generally involve clear, bright colors. Lately I'm using lots of aqua, lime green and yellow.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I LOVE other color combinations my eyes always wander over to the historical and primitive colors. I love the comfort that these colors bring to my soul!

ReplyDeleteI love your block! My fabric is anything with turquoise in it I love turquoise! Thanks

I love to use bright colors especially the primary and secondary ones.
ReplyDeleteLove your block! Your color selection is perfect!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite palette is shabby chic. I love soft, romantic colors in traditional blocks.
Congrats on your block - i love it! thanks and I am into batiks right now! in autumn colors espeically!
ReplyDeleteI tend to like brights, loved your Spumoni
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of blues combined with white/neutrals, maybe with a little red thrown in.
ReplyDeleteI love the secondary pattern that your block creates. It is hard to choose which color scheme I like best because I try to vary my quilts depending on who will receive them...I would love to be in your drawing for 100 Blocks. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI like your block!! The colors are right up my alley!! he he Thank you for the giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteBrights! But your lovely block inspires me to go get out of the box!
ReplyDeleteLove the block - I just finished a kaleidoscope quilt and was amazed how easy those shapes were to work with. I really liked all the layouts you showed. My favorite palette with the winter months coming is dark fabrics - navy, hunter green, gold, russet red. Thanks so much for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteMy palate varies with my mood, the season, the pattern..... I'm all over the place. I have sections of brights, primitives, solids, funky, sedate.....truly all over the place!
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a generous give away!
Jewel tones are my favorites today! I love so many color combinations, my favs change frequently!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colors to work with are the earth tones/fall palette (red, orange, gold, brown, etc.) The trees here are at their peak right now and dizzying in their colors!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that my favorite colorway is primitive, at the present time. But, this changes over time. Hard to say what I will like in 5 years. Thanks for sharing your block with us and some design ideas and the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great block. I love the 30's colors. This block would work so well.
ReplyDeletewow! look at all the quilts you could make with your great block. So cool!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color palette is primitive but I love working in all colors.
Such a great block with so many different choices. I love your colors because these are my colors that I love. I would love a chance to win a copy of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 4 for myself. I just see so many different blocks that catches my eye that I want to quilt now.
ReplyDeleteSandi
Your block is beautiful!! I loved the previous issues of 100 Blocks, and the new one looks just as great! Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI love any combination of color with white as a contrast.
ReplyDeleteFavorite color combo is red black and white or anything with yellow, especially yellow's and blue's
ReplyDeleteMy favorite palette right now is working with reproduction fabrics. Although I change depending on the quilt that I want to make. Like your block. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love the ice cream reference to your blocks. I've seen that type of block before but not done in strings and I love it! Your placement options really opened up the possibilities! Colors at the moment are blue and green. I think I need a trip to a warm beach.
ReplyDeleteRight now I would pick a primitive palette. I love the grayed color ways. I love what happened to your palette when you added the pistachio green.
ReplyDeleteLove your block and all the settings for a quilt. Thanks for the chance at winning a copy of the magazine. Hugs
ReplyDeleteLove your block!!! I tend to switch between warm colors and bright modern prints. Right now, I'm just loving purples, like eggplant etc!!
ReplyDeleteMore than a color palette I just love batiks. I like pastel ones or neutral ones, but I am most often drawn to bright ones. I sometimes refer to myself as a batik snob! I love your block and all the potential it has for amazing quilting when put into a top. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteIs one of those designs that a lot of different color combos would look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the Neapolitan though.
My favorite color palette is BRIGHTS!!!! The happier and brighter the colors are the better I like it. I love blues and purples together with a touch of sunny yellow!
ReplyDeleteLime green is my current favorite, so your quilt design with the lime border is very cool for me!
ReplyDeletethanks!
I love string quilts and this is awesome... and such interesting settings... thank you
ReplyDeleteOh, my! This is one block that I will have to make. I love the different settings and the illusions created! My favorite color choices tend to vary with the seasons...right now I am into the fall colors. Give me a couple weeks and it will be all Christmas colors!
ReplyDeleteI'm drawn to primitives but I almost always make bright quilts as I sew for World of Charity Stitching. I like to give bright, cheerful quilts to the nursing home we donate to. Brightens their day!
ReplyDeleteI seem to gravitate toward the Civil WAr repo's or primitive's most of the time but once in a while it's fun to sew with some really bright and gawdy fabrics, especially for children.
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE this block!!! I thank you for providing tons of different patterns one can make from this block alone.
ReplyDeleteI have a few favourite colour combos but I guess my fav at the moment is black/white and turquoise. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteReally nice variation of how the block can fit together!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate and pink together, especially batiks and civil wars - I know, opposite sides of the spectrum. Love your block...thank you for contributing and showing different settings.
ReplyDeleteI just love your block!! I like string piecing in general, but your block is just great!
ReplyDeleteI just love this block - can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the issue so I can get going!
ReplyDeleteFun options with your block! I like jewel tones best.
ReplyDeleteNeopolitain and Supomoni are my all-time favorite ice cream flavors! What a great way to make use of those scraps we always seem to have.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I'm supposed to pick a favorite color pallet? Well, I just finished a civil war quilt top; I have 3 college quilts in the making; and I'm putting together some depression era blocks. Needless to say, that is a variety of colors. So I guess you could say all of them because whatever I'm working on at the moment is my favorite color pallet.
ReplyDeleteWonderful block...and so much fun. I love brights, pastels, jewel tones...the possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the volume 4 issue!
Very pretty! I keep going back to blue, green, white with yellow touches.
ReplyDeleteI am always attracted to dark, rich colors like navy, burgandy, hunter green, and walnut brown. But I really like the colors in the neopolitan colorway of your block. I may have to start expanding my color horizons!
ReplyDeleteAwesome block! It looks great in your bright colors. I usually pick something with red/wht/blue. But can see where the brights might work better for this.
ReplyDeleteI love dark rich colours mixed with earth tones, mainly in batik fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI really like all the layout options your block provides and that you can highlight any color palette.
I was born with a natural tendancy toward dark colors. I really like the Civil War fabrics because of that.
ReplyDeleteYour block has soooo much potential. I enjoyed looking at the variety of settings that you posted.

My favorite colors are brights. I love your blog. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAfter years of liking the darker colors--everything a little muddy or grayed--I'm now drawn to "clears". It coincides with an infatuation with Kona cottons, so perhaps that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being included and thanks for showing all the different variations. I love that.
BRIGHTS! Although I've been dabbling a bit into reproduction fabrics lately. Contratulations in being selected for the cover. Your block probably goes together real quick as its made with strings. Such a creative way of using up scraps. I'd have to say the Spumoni version, 1st layout is my favorite. 1st I just finished a pink quilt so I'd need some help from my green strips and the border finishes off the design perfectly! Thanks for a chance to win. Sandi
ReplyDeleteJacquelynne, I really love your creativity and commitment to the Lord. I also love jewel-tones for a color palette. Thank you for cluing us in to the hops coming up! Blessings, Kd ~ www.KdQuilts.com
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all the different setting options with your block. My favorite color palette is blues--many shades of blue. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWonderful block--so versatile. I prefer brights on one end of the spectrum, and earth tones on the other. With some black, white, and red thrown in! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI love pastels and neutrals, colors that are soft and restful to add calm to a busy life.
ReplyDeleteLove the block - as I have never done any string blocks...and if I look at it as just one block...it might happen...but then again, I love all the quilt setting that you've done. Drat. And you want me to actually choose a favorite color combination? Really? How about a favorite color - that would be coral...so with brown, or with green, or with gold, or with blue...
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite palette is gold, orange, yellow, brown, with a dash of turquoise.
ReplyDeleteI love brights!
ReplyDeleteI like brights for myself and the more contrast the better.
ReplyDeleteLove your block and your color options are a hoot-add green and get spamoni! lOL
Bev Gunn
I am a bright color person,,,,love your block my favorite,,,,,
ReplyDeleteI like pastels - actually country pastels scarlette, shobbs@vcu.edu
ReplyDeleteI like the palette of medium brights I think..a little fiesty punch with colour but not a "knock out" blow. The trick for me to keep it all in balance!
ReplyDeleteSue at bbr10629@netzero.com I realy like a bright vivid palette, but that doesn't always work with the project. I like using strip piecing and your block looks like it will a fun one to piece, also like to wide variety of setting that give so many different looks to the same basic block.
ReplyDeleteI love your block. So many ways to use it. Thanks for sharing it with us. My pallet? soft pastels.
ReplyDeleteWonderful block - my favorite color palette right now is green, brown, yellow, black - like Origins by Basic Grey. Hoping that Kansas Star will accept my comment too as it has not been doing such lately. Would be delighted to win a copy of your book. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy tastes change with the seasons. Today I like Primitives, but I also love brights and pastels. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYour block is so pretty! I love just about any color palette, but right now, brights are the in-thing with me. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGreat block! Right now my color palette is anything with gray. I just love all the new fabric lines that incorporate gray as a neutral.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a lot of string type quilts in the past months and like them quite a bit. I love the brights the best, especially the oranges and yellows.
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please, please, pick me!!!!, I'm jumping all aroud the place, love your block and defitinely I'd give a try in country colors, which I love!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your block! i tend to gravitate toward autumn/CW colors. I'm trying to expand my stash. LOL Thanks for the fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat block - looks like a good stashbuster!! I tend toward a fall palette, although I'm trying to branch out from that!
ReplyDeleteI love bright pastels and love your block and all the layouts you showed using it. Would love to win
ReplyDeletethis magazine so I can make it.

ReplyDeletei like brights, but i also like old fashioned calico type prints. i'm not picky!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at "neapolitan" hehe. Love your blocks and loving the pinks and browns lately. Also the aqua and red. I've been sewing with more folk colors in the past, like Thimbleberries but lately I've been stepping out of my color box.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and a chance to win. Love to win your book as well.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
What a great versatile block. I too thought of icecream as soon as I saw it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is blues, blues, and more blues. It varies on what I like with it, but currently white, cream, and browns.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great block! Super way to use up scraps, although I love the neapolitan colors you used. Primitives and deep fall colors are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteLove your block & your ice cream colors make it so fun! I love bright colors in a quilt so I'd probably make your block in M&M ice cream flavors! thanks for the chance to win Vol 4
ReplyDeleteI really like your block, and can't wait to make it. I love prmitive color palettes. But I also love cool blues and greens, those that would remind a person of the ocean.
ReplyDeleteYour block is so sweet! I'm drawn to the colors you chose but tend to decorate my home primitive or civil war...you know, Old antique sort of colors. Call me drab! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your block. It's got some space for some beautiful quilting designs. I don't think I have a favorite color palette. It changes on a whim for me!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color palate is scraps-light, dark and medium. I've leared a lot about color by making scrap quilts. I'd love to try your block with my scraps.
ReplyDeleteI normally love the civil war type traditional color palettes, but currently am working on a quilt for granddaughter that is in pinks and browns. So, I was especially interested in your block with the same colors, esp. since I'll need to make another pink and brown for her twin sister! I'm also a scrap piecer, so your block fit my favorite way of piecing quilts--making do with scraps and strings!
ReplyDeleteI like pastels, but with something darker or brighter to make the design pop.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to get some free inspiration!
My favorite colorway seems to be earth tones - greens, browns, etc.
ReplyDeleteI am Candy Soehren at cls47@prodigy.net.
I love your block and I love the colour scheme you have used - strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Yummy and chic
ReplyDeleteI think your block is really cool! I also dig the way you related the colors to food...way to go, lol. My favorite color pallet is jewel tones and specifically batiks. They really get the imagination going :o)
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love Neapolitan ice cream. Second, my favorite pallet is the whole spectrum. Right now it's autumn colors, but soon it will be Christmas colors. It changes with the seasons and holidays.

ReplyDeleteLovely block. Congrats for being included in the magazine.
ReplyDeleteI love jewel tones the best...although right now I can't seem to get enough aqua colored fabrics! :)
Very pretty block. I'm not sure that I have a favorite palette. I love color and that means that it depends what catches my eye.
ReplyDeleteYour block is great! My favorite color palatte would be (for lack of a better description) fall colors / earth tones. Thanks so much for the chance to win! Judy W
ReplyDeleteLove your block! The colors are great, too! Pink is my favorite color and I love the brown with it.
ReplyDeleteI love pastels, guess that is why I love the 30's repros, too!

ReplyDeleteI'm kind of a scrappy type gal. I like your block. Thanks for a chance to win a copy of this magazine.
ReplyDeleteI love pastels, but am also partial to cool colors.
ReplyDeleteYou are making me hungry with these ice cream inspired colors! I am all over the place on my colors - use a lot of orange but a lot depends on the recipient and the season and how the fabric calls me.
ReplyDeleteNeopolitan--my favorite. lol I love brights!!
ReplyDeleteYour block has so much potential - scrappy or controlled colors - the sky's the limit!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts for children and my favorites are to mix bright crayola crayon solid colors with bright kid's novelty prints. Thanks for the opportunity to win a book!
I love all colors in a quilt so I guess my pallet is scrappy. Your block is wonderful. I have made something similar using scraps and it works well that way too. I also love the secondary "star" that is created. Would love to win a copy to try your version. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
ReplyDeleteLove your scrappy block....so cute!
ReplyDeleteMy mom says she likes Blue, brown, gold or orange. Love to see what each designer creates. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteGreat names for your blocks. I really love the Neopolitin but adding the green into that is awesome looking too.
ReplyDeleteI really am not picky and like all color palettes but I am drawn more to the bright colors lately. I LOVE Red and Aqua especially.
A wonderful block that can be done in different styles, love being able to change them with fabric choices. I love primitive style, but I also love art quilting too, so it depends on my mood.
ReplyDeleteDebbie

ReplyDeleteGreat block! Such interesting design possibilities.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win extras.
Oh pick me.
ReplyDeletemhinders@myclearwave.net
So many possible variations. I think I prefer a bold colors palette--hot pink, acid green, electric blue, vibrant yellow, etc. maybe with black and/or white.
ReplyDeleteI like brights in a kaleidoscope of colors. Thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love brights!! Most of my color combo's are in a rainbow color way. I just like the look, it is so happy! I love your block. I can see it in many color combos.
ReplyDeleteI love brights and your spumoni fits right in with them. Love it.
ReplyDeletei'd have to say brights, i guess; my old eyes have unripe cataract now and it's easy to see brights. used to love tonals ... shades of one tone of a color - any green! moss, clover, jade.
ReplyDeletethanx for the opportunity to win a copy!
I don't think I could pick just one color palette. Right now I am using a pink, purple and blue color palette in pastel for some quilt blocks I am working on. I have also used bright batiks in greens, purples, turquoises, and blue a couple months ago and loved that so I really can't say what my favorite is. I love colors of all different shades, tones and brightness and could probably never come up with one palette that was my all time favorite.
ReplyDeletemy favorite color has always been :scrappy:
ReplyDeleteI have been saving 1 inch scraps to make a scrappy version, I love your last layout, now i have something to aim for. cw
I love the designs that appear when your block is put together in a quilt. Just fabulous! I go for brights just about every time.... can't help it.

ReplyDeleteI love brights at the moment. I seem to change every once in awhile:)
ReplyDeleteLove your block! This is a block that I can see making! I'd like to use cool tones like blue, grey, bluish white.

ReplyDeleteI love your quilt design. String quilts are awesome.
Congratulations on your block, and I love seeing how it can be utilized. I waffle between primitives and brights, but the primitives usually win. I have some of your Sewing Social, and it's so different from my usual palette that I love it!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being selected to be in 100 Blocks! This block is wonderful!! I love it every way that you have shown it. I would love to win the magazine - but truthfully I can's say I have a favorite color combo. They are all so pretty. So I'll say blue and yellow, until I change my mind, which will be in 10 seconds! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI like the primitive earthy colors and the lavenders as well. So many comments but there is always hope.
ReplyDeleteLove your block.
I love brights...they are so cheerful to me! They brighten my day even when things seem grey and gloomy. I grew up in a home where the walls were white and everything was drab. It seemed lifeless. This may be why I am so drawn to color now! :-) It is amazing to me how color can affect your mood or even emotions.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that someone can look ravishing in neutrals, where I look dead in them?! Color can do amazing things, can't it?!
Love your Spumoni quilts! Ice cream fixes everything!
ReplyDeleteWow another killer block this is a great tour! I really like bright in your face colors that just jump right at you.
ReplyDeleteI love string blocks, but I had no idea there could be so many setting possibilities! I am planning a version with blues and tans.
ReplyDeleteKaren in Breezy Point
I love those kaleidoscope blocks!! Any color combination looks great! Brights or antique-y looking fabrics are generally my favorite, though!! I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of 100 Blocks!!
