In Need of a 12 Step Program

Last week I bought 4 new magazines at Barnes and Noble.
The week before last I bought 3. Two of those remain unread.

I subscribe to Country Living, British Country Living, American Patchwork & Quilting, Better Homes & Gardens, House Beautiful, and Cloth, Paper, Scissors. Somehow when I ordered something totally unrelated online, I ended up with a complimentary subscription to Field and Stream. Dead serious. It arrives every month with my name right on the front cover. There is an excellent chance that there are a few others that I am forgetting right now.
When it comes to pretty pictures, I am like a moth to the flame.
I try to tell myself that they are a legitimate business expense. Market Research, yeah, that's it. But deep down I know the truth...

My name is Jacquelynne, and I am a magazine addict.

Can I get an Amen?!?!

  1. Amen. Every year I decide to cancel my subscriptions and I do. But then, a few months later--I can't help myself--I sign back up again! It's not such a terrible thing, right? We are helping out the publishing industry!

  2. As a CPA, I say you are NOT an addict...it is a legitimate business expense. Not too sure about Field and Stream, unless you are using it to draw fish and birds:)

  3. Amen! My name is Sandi and I'm right there with ya. :-) I get Country Living, American Patchwork & Quilting, Womeninc (a Midwest publication), Good Old Days and Newsweek but always buy a few here and there, too. I cannot tell a lie, though....in the past year I cancelled Good Housekeeping and Ladies Home Journal which I had subscribed to forever! And I cancelelled Quilter's Home and QuiltWorld. I still have many of the magazines and thought when I get caught up, I will probably have to subscribe again. LOL!

  6. What is sad is sometimes I forget I bought a magazine and buy it AGAIN! I don't think 12 steps would cover it for me! :)

  7. You are not alone! LOL! I don't subscribe to anything other than Create and Decorate, by my mother-in-law and her sister subscribe to enough for all three of us. They read them and then give them to me. BH&G, Traditional Home, Country Living, Country Sampler, Redbook, Country Gardens, etc.

It was becoming a HUGE problem so a few weeks ago I decided enough was enough. I went through ALL of them (we are talking years of magazines) and tore out anything that I wanted to save (recipes, decorating ideas, craft ideas, etc.) and put them in file folders. It felt soooo good to deliver three bankers boxes of magazines to the recycle bin at my son's school!

Yep, we need a support group. :)
